Irene Josephine Scheppers, 93, of Jefferson City, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2015, at Capital Region Medical Center. She was born December 16, 1921, in Rich Fountain, the daughter of the late Anton and Mary (Posey) Schetzler. On January 17, 1939, she married Otto B. Scheppers in Rich Fountain. He preceded her in death on June 18, 1986. Irene was a homemaker and was a member of the Immaculata Club, St. Ann's Sodality and the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She enjoyed cooking, baking, reading, playing cards and bingo. Irene is survived by: three daughters, Carolyn M. (Ken) Baker, Betty Scheppers and Kathy (Jerry) Nevins, all of Jefferson City; one son, Donald J. (Deborah) Scheppers Sr. of Jefferson City; two daughters-in-law, Mildred Scheppers of Centertown and Liz Scheppers of Jefferson City; son-in-law, Donald Hammann of Jefferson City; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by: three sons, Bernard "Butch" Scheppers, Charles Scheppers and William Scheppers; and three daughters, Dianne Hammonn, Lisa Scheppers and Patricia Rackers; four sisters, Anna Schwartz, Gertrude Englebrecht, Matilda Moeller and Helen Haggerty; and one brother, Harry Schetzler. Family received friends from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday, January 5, 2015, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, with a Prayer Service at 4:15 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Fr. Tony Rinaldo officiating. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Special Olympics.
