Mr. David C. Harrison, age 87 years, of Hartsburg, Mo., passed away peacefully Sunday, January 4, 2015, at home surrounded by his family. David was born June 10, 1927 in Richmond, Mo., the son of David E. and Irma F. Clark Harrison. He was married on June 8, 1949, in St. Joseph, Mo., to Allegra Lile. He was a 1945 graduate of Maryville High School, Maryville, Mo., a graduate of the St. Joseph Junior College, and a graduate of the University of Missouri Law School. David served in the United States Army from 1945 until he was honorably discharged in 1946 and was stationed in Korea for 14 months during his service. He was employed with the MFA Insurance in Columbia for several years and later as an attorney in Salem, Mo. David moved to Jefferson City in 1961 as an attorney for the Missouri Power and Light Company. In 1969, he became President of Missouri Power and Light and supervised the utilities service in 200 area towns. When Missouri Power and Light merged with Union Electric in 1984, he became an officer with the company and oversaw much of the same territory, plus the Lake of the Ozarks prior to his retirement in 1988. He was an active member, deacon, elder, and Sunday school teacher at the First Presbyterian Church; a past director of the Missouri Department of Economic Development; a past member of the Board of Curators with Lincoln University; a member of the Board of Directors of Central Bank; a past president of the Jefferson City Chamber of Commerce; a past president of the Jefferson City Jaycees; a past president of the Missouri Chamber of Commerce, and a founding member of the Jefferson City Public School Foundation. Always active in community activities, David was awarded the William W. Quigg Leadership Award in 1998 for his devotion to Jefferson City. He was a proud supporter of the MASTERS which supports the families of the Missouri State Highway Patrol. He enjoyed fishing, playing golf, traveling, reading books on American History and watching classic old movies and University of Missouri basketball games. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family. Survivors include: his wife of 65 years, Allegra Harrison; one son, David Lile Harrison and his wife Betty of Hartsburg, Mo.; two sisters, Jean Ann Harrison of Lees Summit, Mo. and Jane Harrison of Lee's Summit, Mo.; one grandson, Scott David Harrison and his wife Tamah of Jefferson City, Mo.; and one great-grandson, Whitman Kavi Harrison. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Laura Ann Harrison on February 17, 2011; and one sister, Joan Florida. Visitation will be at the Freeman Mortuary from 4:30 until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 8, 2015, and at the First Presbyterian Church from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Friday. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 9, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dr. Rob Erickson and the Reverend Dr. David Henry officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Cole County Historical Museum or the First Presbyterian Church of Jefferson City.
