Steve C. Brusherd Sr.

Mr. Steve C. Brusherd Sr., age 63 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Thursday, January 1, 2015, at his home. Steve was born on August 21, 1951, in Lebanon, Mo., a son of Miles and Marie Verzel Brusherd. He was married on April 23, 1999, in Jefferson City, Mo., to Deborah Mae Ritchey. He grew up in Jefferson City and Cuba, Mo. and was a graduate of Cuba High School. After high school Steve served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict until he was honorably discharged in April 1973. He was extremely proud of his service to our country and always willing to share stories and character traits he learned while in the Army. Steve was employed in the warehouse at Scholastic for over 25 years until his retirement in July 2013. He also helped at Von Hoffmann Press and Community Park Village where he met some great friends. He was a member of the American Legion, Roscoe Enloe Post 5 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Roy Sone Post 1003. Steve cherished time with his family and friends, especially barbequing for them. He was always watching cooking shows to find a new receipt or trying to make up his own. He also enjoyed fishing in his free time. Survivors include: his wife, Debbie Brusherd; two sons, Steve C. Brusherd Jr. (wife Amy) of Rolla, Mo. and James Hendricks (wife Toni) of Eldon, Mo.; one daughter, Carla Creed of Centertown, Mo.; his step-mother, Betty Burd; his father-in-law, Martin Ritchey of Henley, Mo.; one sister, Tina Lester; four brothers, Miles Brusherd (wife Tammy), Mike Bonnot (wife Michele), Charles Bonnot (wife Jo) and Julian Bonnot; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Barbara Divis; and his mother-in-law, Erna Ritchey. Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon, Monday, January 5, 2015. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 noon, Monday, January 5, 2015, in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Dr. Stephen Buchholz officiating. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be held at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) or the Wounded Warrior Project.
