Wm. Samuel (Sam) Beavers

Dr. Wm. Samuel (Sam) Beavers of Brisbane, Australia, formerly of Jefferson City, died on Wednesday, December 10, 2014. Dr. Beavers was born in Jefferson City, Mo., on December 16, 1934, the son of the late Byron and Helen (Qualls) Beavers. Sam graduated from Jefferson City High School and Drake University. After graduation from college Sam served in the United States Navy. He continued his education at MU receiving a masters degree in education, he taught at the Union High School, Union, Mo. He earned his PHD from Michigan State University, and taught at Illinois State University, before moving to Australia in 1971, where he continued his career as a Professor at the University of Queensland, Brisbane. Surviving in Australia are a daughter, Rosalind Beavers; a son, Alex Beavers; and four grandchildren, Eloise and Jules Julier, Charlotte and Max Beavers; he is also survived by his sister, Anne Beavers Althauser and husband Don, of Hermann, Mo. Services were held on Tuesday, December 16, 2014, in Brisbane, Australia.
