Elmer John Blochberger

Elmer John Blochberger, 93, of Holts Summit, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2013, at Summit Villa in Holts Summit. He was born December 24, 1919, in Cole County, Missouri, the son of the late J. Edward and Hilda (Kiesling) Blochberger. On November 14, 1948, he was united in marriage in Jefferson City, to Catherine M. Hammond, who preceded him in death on July 28, 2008. Elmer was a graduate of Jefferson City High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in World War II, seeing service in North Africa and Europe, and received 7 Bronze Stars. After the War, he worked for Singer Sewing Machine Company for several years, then went to work at the United States Post Office, where he retired as a Clerk in 1985. Elmer was always a friendly and loving person, and loved to make people smile. Elmer is survived by a son: Samuel Edward Blochberger of Holts Summit; nine grandchildren: Alicia Stieferman, Jacob Blochberger, Katie Rusk, Leah Blochberger, Cory Hoss, Courtney Moody, Cara Trautman, Khala Janko, Caymen Hoss; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a daughter: Mary Sue Blochberger; a great-grandson: Jack Stieferman; three brothers and one sister. Friends will be received from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, with Steve Truitt speaking. Interment will follow in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
