Irene Edna Knernschield, age 88, of Jefferson City, passed away Monday, November 11, 2013, at St. Mary's Health Center in Jefferson City. She was born May 23, 1925, in Jefferson City, a daughter of Otto Emil and Anna Martha Goldammer Schuricht. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson City. On July 1, 1951, Irene was united in marriage to Gilbert Knernschield who preceded her in death June 22, 1980. She was a homemaker, busy raising her two children and working in the family garden. Irene enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was always willing to lend a helping hand. She was accomplished at painting ceramics and owned Irene's Ceramics from 1985-2001. Irene also enjoyed embroidering and quilting and was embroidering quilt blocks at the time of her death. Irene was a lifelong member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson City. She is survived by two children, David Knernschield of Jefferson City and Pamela Rustemeyer and husband Ron of Centertown; one sister, Esther Strobel of Jefferson City; three grandchildren, Sheila Rustemeyer, Erin Rustemeyer and fiancÈ Kyle Eggen, and Kevin Rustemeyer, along with several cousins, other relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Julius Schuricht. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 15, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson City with Pastor Russ Bowder and Pastor Sam Powell officiating. Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery in Jefferson City. The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, November 14, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson City.
