Patricia (Pat) Louise Owen, 82, of Rocky Mount, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2013, at Lake of the Ozarks, Mo. On February 24, 1931, she was born in Muskegon, Michigan, the daughter of the late George and Eva (Rozyski) Hylen. On October 22, 2003, in Caledonia, Michigan, she was united in marriage to Richard E. Owen who survives of the home. Pat was herself a Dominican Sister for many years. There she received her Bachelor's degree from Aquinas College, and later her Master's degree from University of Mississippi. She followed her vocation, teaching music and science in several Michigan schools including Traverse City, Alpena, Kingsley, Muskegon Catholic Central and Aquinas College in Grand Rapids. Although she taught sciences, she was an accomplished pianist and organist and had a beautiful singing voice. She chose to leave the order in 1973, and was subsequently employed by General Motors in the metallurgy laboratory until her retirement in 1991. Pat and Dick recently celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary. They spent their winters in their "little house on the desert" and summers in the home that Dick built on Lake of the Ozarks. Survivors include: step-daughter and husband, Cynthia and Andrew Hake of Jefferson City, Mo.; brother and sister-in-law, George and Gloria Hylen; sisters and brothers-in-law, Judith and Clyde Christofferson, Kathleen and Gerald Wenskink, Rosemary and William Brogren; Jeanne Kochin; step-grandchildren and spouses, Jackie and Richard Pfenenger, Jennie and John Pfenenger, Joyce and Tyler Richardson, JoAnn and Matthew Hodges, Bryan and Jennifer Hake; six step-great-grandchildren; 23 nieces and nephews, and many friends of the Marywood Dominicans. She was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Jane Livingston; her first husband, Andrew Beukema; a brother, George Hylen Jr.; a sister, Mary Louise Fodrocy; and a brother-in-law, Thomas Kochin. Memorial Service will be Friday November 15, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake Ozark, Mo. Memorials are suggested to the Wednesday Workshop at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Phillips Funeral Home of Eldon.
