James Peyton Hutchison

James Peyton Hutchison, age 79, of Jefferson City, formerly of Versailles, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veteran's Hospital in Columbia. He was born September 2, 1933, in Fortuna, a son of the late Edgar and Mary Josephine Hamilton Hutchison. On May 28, 1952, in Versailles, he was united in marriage to his surviving wife, Adelia "DeeDee" Cairns Hutchison. Jim was a United States Air Force veteran of the Korean War serving from June of 1951 to April of 1955. He was employed by the U.S. Post Office in Monterey, California, served as Director of the Missouri Department of Family Services in Morgan County for 20 years, and was an insurance agent working for his son at Brad Hutchison State Farm Insurance Agency in Jefferson City for 20 years. He was also a farmer and an auctioneer. At the age of 13, he was the youngest licensed auctioneer in the United States. After he retired, he served as a hospice volunteer and also delivered meals for Meals on Wheels in Jefferson City. Jim was a member of the Jefferson City First Baptist Church. He was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Monterey, California and in Versailles where he served as a Deacon in both congregations. He was a member of the Versailles American Legion Post 104 and a past member of the Versailles Masonic Lodge 320 and the Kiwanis Club. Jim was an avid sports fan. He especially took pride in supporting Jefferson City Athletics. He enjoyed people and never met a stranger. He loved visiting with people and getting to know them. Jim always greeted everyone with his congenial smile. That smile never left his face when he was in the presence of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved them and was so proud of each of them. In addition to his wife, DeeDee, he is survived by his children, Brad Hutchison and wife Lorna of Jefferson City, Missouri, DeeAnn Aull of Jefferson City, Missouri, Jamie McDevitt and husband Denny of Poquoson, Virginia and Dana Moruzzi and husband Timothy of Clarendon Hills, Illinois; 11 grandchildren, Brandon Hutchison of Liberty, Missouri, Dustin Hutchison of Kansas City, Missouri, Clay Hutchison of Kansas City, Missouri, Mason Hutchison of St. Louis, Missouri, Barrett Laurie of St. Louis, Missouri, Katy Aull of St. Louis, Missouri, Maggie, Sophie and Brody McDevitt of Poquoson, Virginia and TJ and Ali Moruzzi of Clarendon Hills, Illinois; three great-grandchildren, Rylie, Isabella and Max Hutchison of Liberty, Missouri; brother, David Hutchison of Boonville, Missouri; sisters, Velma Jones of Independence, Missouri, Betty Huffman and husband Aubrey of Versailles, Missouri, Donna Slagle and husband Dexter of Versailles, Missouri and Alta Chipley and husband John of Boonville, Missouri; and several nieces, nephews and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Leslie Ann Laurie; and his brothers, Richard Hutchison, Leo Hutchison, W.D. Hutchison and Elvin Hutchison. A celebration of Jim's life will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, July 27, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date in the Versailles Cemetery.
