Barbara Sophia Rackers, 91, of Taos, died Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility. She was born April 22, 1922, in Taos, a daughter of John and Mary (Schnieders) Taube. On August 3, 1940, Barbara was united in marriage to Joseph Albert Rackers, who preceded her in death on October 14, 1969. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Barbara was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing and quilting, playing pinochle and dominoes, being a mother to her children and taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include three sons: Robert F. Rackers, John O. Rackers and wife Sharon (Talken), Tony J. Rackers and wife Kathy (Thessen), all of Taos; a daughter-in-law: Delores (Schwartze) Rackers of Taos; four siblings: Rita Forck and husband Julius of Taos, Joseph Taube and wife Mildred of Wardsville, Anthony Taube and wife Virginia of Jefferson City, Mary Riegel of Loose Creek; a brother-in-law: Gabriel Wolken of Taos; 16 grandchildren and 48 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Barbara was preceded in death by one son: Joseph W. Rackers; four brothers: August Taube, Otto Taube and his wife Henrietta, Liberatus Taube, Leo Taube; three sisters: Agatha Rustmeyer and her husband Ted, Theresa Wolken, Helen Berhorst and her husband Jim; a half sister: Katherine Verslues and husband Frank; a half brother: Frank Taube and wife Lavinia; and a brother-in-law: Marvin Riegel. Friends will be received from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Taos Knights of Columbus Hall, where a prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 19, 2013, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Fr. Wayne Boyer officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.
