Diane Heffner

Diane Heffner, 65, of Jefferson City, died Friday, July 5, 2013, at Ellis Fischel Cancer Center surrounded by her family. She was born August 3, 1947, in Shelby, N.C., the only child of the late Dan and Mae Scruggs. She spent her childhood in Cliffside, N.C., often at her father's side. Diane was a former resident of Durham, N.C. and moved to Jefferson City in 2006, to be with her daughter, Angie Heffner Robyn and two granddaughters, Emily Diane and Riley Robyn. She was a lifelong member of Cliffside Baptist Church and a current active member of First Baptist Church of Jefferson City serving on the Children's Ministry Team and 175th Anniversary Celebration Committee. Those left to cherish her memory include a daughter: Angie Heffner Robyn and her husband Tim of Jefferson City, Mo.; four grandchildren whom she loved with all of her heart: Emily Diane and Riley Robyn of Jefferson City, Mo. and Kayla Jo and Davis Robyn of Louisville, Ky.; her aunt: Betty Graham of Forest City, N.C.; her "sister": Mary Scruggs Beason (Freddie) of Cliffside, N.C.; cousins with whom she stayed in close contact: Bill Scruggs Jr. (Anne) and Joel Moore (Jane) of Cliffside, N.C., Lynn Church (David) of Greensboro, N.C., Ken Davis (LaVerne) of Belmont, N.C., Bobby Jones (Diane), Carolyn Crawley and Steve Davis (Wanda)of Forest City, N.C., Elizabeth Evans of Ellenboro, N.C., Sue Tate of Lutz, Fla. and Martha Hamrick of Ellenboro, N.C.; and many special friends. The family would like to extend their special gratitude to: caregivers Lucy Buersmeyer, Kim Hubbard, and Jannie Dunbar; Dr. George Kistler for his years of going above and beyond for Diane; and the staff at Ellis Fischel - especially the AIU staff who she looked forward to seeing on every visit. They would also like to thank the numerous friends, co-workers, neighbors and members of First Baptist Churches of Cliffside and Jefferson City who supported Diane and her family through a 13-year epic battle with cancer.
