Cynthia Ramona Thompson

Mrs. Cynthia Ramona Thompson, age 62, of Jefferson City, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2013, at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. She was born June 18, 1951, in West Palm Beach, Florida, to Leonard and Marjorie (Jackson) Joseph. Cynthia received a high school diploma in 1969, from John F. Kennedy High School, West Palm Beach, Florida. Having won a full music scholarship, she moved to Jefferson City to attend Lincoln University. While attending she was fondly referred to as "Gator Baby" because of her roots in Florida. In 1977, she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education at Lincoln University, Jefferson City, Missouri. She was a member of the Vocal Ensemble and the University Choir. She later earned an MBA Degree from Lincoln University in 2003. Cynthia was married to Alfred Larry, and to this union, one daughter was born, Dawn Ramona Larry. On June 9, 1984, she was united in marriage to Bernard Thompson, who survives at their home. She began her professional career at the Missouri Commission on Human Rights, Jefferson City, Missouri as an Administrative Assistant. She was later employed with the Missouri Department of Economic Development as an Accountant where she retired after 26 years with the State of Missouri. After retirement in 2007, Cynthia commuted between Jefferson City and Chicago to devote her time and care to her granddaughter, Kyla. While in Chicago she rediscovered her passion for teaching and became a substitute teacher with the Chicago Public School System. Cynthia was inducted into the Alpha Theta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Jefferson City, Missouri in fall, 1972. She held a Golden Life membership and was an active member of the Jefferson City Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma for 41 years. During that time she served as President and Corresponding Secretary of the Chapter. She attended many Delta Regional Conferences and National Conventions. Cynthia was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church, Jefferson City, Missouri for many years. She was a soloist in the Inspirational Choir and briefly served as interim choir director. She was under watch care at Trinity United Church of Christ, Chicago, Illinois and also sang in the Inspirational Choir. Cynthia leaves to cherish her memories, a devoted husband, Bernard Thompson, Jefferson City, Missouri; a loving daughter, Mrs. Dawn Hubbard (Robert); a cherished granddaughter, Kyla Hubbard, all of Chicago, Illinois; and her mother, Marjorie Joseph, West Palm Beach, Florida. Others left to cherish her memories include two brothers, Sam Joseph and Leonard Joseph Jr., both of Florida; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, her beloved sorority, and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Leonard Joseph; brother, Lenwood Joseph; aunt, Carolyn James; grandmother, Magnolia Joseph, and great-grandmother, Iona Byrd. An Omega Omega Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. and a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 15, 2013, at Second Baptist Church, 501 Monroe Street, Jefferson City, Missouri, with Reverend Cornell C. Sudduth Sr., Pastor. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of Houser-Millard Funeral Directors, 2613 West Main Street, Jefferson City, Missouri.
