Clyde R. Theroff

Clyde R. Theroff, age 70, of Columbia, passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2013, in Columbia, Mo. Clyde was born to the late Herbert Theroff and Nelda (Loesch) Theroff on August 12, 1942, in Russellville, Mo. On June 23, 1962, he was united in marriage to Janice Renken in Kansas City, Mo. Clyde grew up on the family farm near Lohman, Mo. and attended high school in Russellville where he excelled at basketball, baseball and student government. He was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church. He was a salesman for more than 40 years, managing several Biederman's Furniture Stores and winning numerous sales awards at General Telephone Directory Company, including becoming a member of the Hall of Fame. He was dedicated to, and very proud of, his family. He encouraged his children and grandchildren to always do their best and enjoyed sharing their accomplishments with his friends. He loved playing sports, including basketball, softball, baseball and golf with his wife and children, coaching many of their teams, and attending school activities. Later in life, he was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing with his friends and hitting balls at the driving range. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Janice; his daughters, Angela (Tom) Clarke of Harrisonville, Mo. and Ellen Theroff of St. Charles, Mo.; his son, Cary Clyde Theroff of Columbia; his four granddaughters, Chelsea and Sara Clarke of Harrisonville and Celeste and Madison Theroff of Columbia; his two grandsons, Andrew Clarke of Harrisonville and Cary Clyde Theroff Jr. of Columbia; his brothers, Marvin (Annita) Theroff of Oak Grove, Mo. and Larry (Sandy) Theroff of Jefferson City; his sisters-in-law, Frances Engelbrecht of Eugene, Mo., Deloyce Barry of California, Mo. and Elaine Morris of Brazito, Mo.; his brothers-in-law, Gayle (Janet) Renken of Centertown, Mo. and Keith (Jill) Renken of Russellville, Mo.; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Clyde was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers-in-law, Harold Barry, Curtis Engelbrecht, Donald Renken and Daniel Morris and his sister-in-law, Lila Renken. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on July 20, 2013, at Memorial Funeral Home, Columbia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Children's Mercy Hospital, Resource Development, 2401 Gillham Road, Kansas City, MO 64108, or a charity of your choice.
