John Edward Butcher, 62, of Jefferson City, died Tuesday, September 25, 2012, at Capital Region Medical Center. He was born February 8, 1950, in Tuscola, Illinois, the son of the late Jerald and Helen (Cox) Butcher. He was a graduate of Lake Land Community College in Mattoon, Illinois. John worked for the Missouri Department of Corrections at the Central Missouri Correctional Center and Tipton Correctional Center, retiring in 2010, as Supply Manager after 25 years with the department. He enjoyed fishing, archery, travel and working on vehicles of all kinds, but most of all enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. John was united in marriage in 1969, in Oakland, Illinois, to Janet Robinson, who survives at their home. He is also survived by two children: Lori Mantle and husband Greg of Ashland, Jason Butcher and wife Janine of Jefferson City; and six grandchildren: Justin, Hayley, Colton, Mallory, Gabe and Chase. Friends will be received from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 28, 2012, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, where services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Private family interment will be held.
