Roy L. McGhee Jr.

Roy L. McGhee Jr., 92, of Palm City, Fla.. died Friday, September 14, 2012, at The Treasure Coast Hospice Residence, in Stuart. Born in Jeferson City, Mo., he has resided in Palm City for the past 16 years, moving here from Washington, D.C. Prior to retiring he was a Reporter for U.P.I. and a member of the Press Gallery. For 18 years, Roy served as Superintendent of the Senate Periodical Press Gallery in Washington D.C. After serving as a reporter in Jefferson City, Missouri, and as United Press International bureau chief in Denver, he came to Capitol Hill in 1959, as a regional reporter for UPI. He remained a Washington reporter until 1973, when he took charge of the Periodical Press Gallery, a post that he held until his retirement in 1991. He was also a U.S. Coast Guard WW II veteran.
