Martha Jean Gibson

Martha Jean Gibson, 64, of Arleta, Calif., died Thursday, September 13, 2012, at Providence Tarzana Medical Center in Tarzana, Calif. Martha was born November 27, 1947, in Fulton, the daughter of the late Margaret J. Kemp and Charles E. Yocum. Martha was married to Donald P. Gibson on June 22, 1971, in Nassau, Bahamas, where they had an extended honeymoon for two years before moving to Arleta, Calif. Her husband of 41 years survives at their home. Martha's husband's great-grandfather, Ira B. Scott, was the first Black Bishop of the United Methodist Church. Martha was baptized at an early age at St. James United Methodist Church in Fulton. She worked for Zane J. Lubin and Associates for 15 years. Prior to that, she worked for various law firms in Beverly Hills, Calif. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Bruce E. Yocum; nephew, Donald L. Galbreath; and great-nephew, Cory J. Vaughan. She leaves to cherish her memory: her step-father, Richard Kemp of Fulton; sisters, Geraldine Kelly of Fulton, Josephine Vaughan (Clarence) of Jefferson City, and Mary V. Galbreath of Fulton; brothers-in law, Cal Gibson of Los Angeles, Calif., and Ben Gibson of Los Angeles, Calif.; her beloved friend, boss and confidante, Zane J. Lubin of Phoenix, Ariz.; nieces, Darsel Phauls (McNeal) of Jefferson City, Becky Crump (Corey) of Jefferson City, and Melodie Anderson of Panama City Beach, Fla.; nephews, Clarence Vaughan Jr. of Jefferson City and Norris (Geba) Byers of Fulton; extended family, Barbara Sue Robinson (Warren) of Fulton, Nina Foster (George) of Fulton, Carrie Mae Chetum of Columbia, Alta Mae West (Ken) of Atlanta, Ga., Bobby Galbreath of Fulton and Lafayette Galbreath of Fulton; and a host of great-nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 22, 2012, at St. James United Methodist Church in Fulton. Interment will follow at Southside Cemetery.
