Hubert August Brune, age 82, of Meta, passed away at his home on Tuesday, September 4, 2012. He was born in Freeburg on October 28, 1929, second oldest son of the late August and Elizabeth (Reinkemeyer) Brune. On February 5, 1955 he was united in marriage to Margaret Ann Heckman, who survives at their home. Hubert was a graduate of Freeburg High School. He was a lifelong resident of Osage County and a Dairy Farmer until retiring in 1987. Along with farming, he enjoyed working in the timber, camaraderie of a good card game, the competition of the local tractor pull, and was an avid outdoorsman, especially enjoying coon hunting. He also enjoyed dancing with his wife, rarely sitting one out. Hubert served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1954. He was a member of the St. Cecilia Parish, St. Thomas Knights of Columbus, Argyle VFW, Farm Service Agency for 32 years, and the Osage County Farmers Mutual Insurance Board. He is also survived by 11 children, Carol Luecke and husband Ambrose of Folk, Mary Luecke and husband Kenny of Folk, Dave Brune and wife Eileen of Meta, Rick Brune and wife Peggy of Rich Fountain, Lisa Luecke and husband Leon of Folk, Lauri Luebbering and husband Mark of St. Thomas, Steve Brune and wife Karla of Westphalia, Trudi Brune of Linn, Gina Thoenen and husband Kevin of Loose Creek, Ruthie Eichholz and husband Todd of Westphalia, and Bryan Brune and wife Kristi of Freeburg; 34 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Vince Brune and wife Lou of Freeburg, Alfred Brune and wife Joan of Fremont, Nebraska, and Emil "Butch" Brune and wife Betty of Loose Creek; and one sister, Marie Kempker and husband Harold of Jefferson City. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 7, 2012, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Meta. Fr. Jeremy Secrist will officiate. Interment with military honors will be in St. Cecilia Cemetery in Meta. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m., on Thursday, September 6, at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Osage County Special Services or SSM Hospice. Arrangements are under the direction of Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Meta.
