Leona Maye Holzer, 93, of Jefferson City, died Monday, December 27, 2010, at Jefferson City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on December 9, 1917, in Jefferson City, the daughter of the late William Nichols and Effie Wyrick Newman. Leona was a 1934 graduate of Jefferson City High School and a graduate of Jefferson City School of Nursing. She was united in marriage on May 7, 1940, in Jefferson City, to Frank Chris Holzer, who resides at the home. Leona was a L.P.N. working for St. Mary's Hospital, Still Hospital, and with Dr. Taylor. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church where she belonged to a prayer circle. Leona was an avid reader and loved to play crossword puzzles and crochet. Many of Leona's family and friends enjoyed the best fried chicken in Jefferson City. Other survivors include: one daughter, Barbarah Viles, Houston, Texas; two grandchildren, Nelson Evann Viles and Erick Viles; seven great-grandchildren, Erick, Timothy, Taylor, Ashley, Ericka, Christiann, and Lauren; two great-great-grandchildren, Audrey and Daisy; and one sister, Catheryn "Katie" Gomes, state of California. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Alice Holstein and Hazel Gomes; and two brothers, Raymond and Paul Newman. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Friday, December 31, 2010, at St. Peter Catholic Church with the Rev. Francis W. Doyle officiating. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 4:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association, 2400 Bluff Creek Dr., Columbia MO 65201.
