Samantha Scott, 16, of Holts Summit, passed away Wednesday, December 8, 2010, in Jefferson City, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born June 21, 1994, in Columbia, the daughter of Dave O. and Karen (Whalen) Scott. Samantha was currently in her junior year at Helias High School, where she was a member of Club International and served as Chairperson for the hosting of "Mothers Day Out"; a member of the Spanish Club; a member and student ambassador for People to People; a member of the National Student Leadership Organization; and was a Helias Mission Tripper. She was a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, and also participated in Saturday Science at the University of Missouri in Columbia. During her freshman and sophomore years, she was a member of the Helias Band. Samantha was an avid softball player, and enjoyed playing basketball and volleyball. She also served as a tutor for children. Samantha is survived by her mother, Karen Scott of Holts Summit; two brothers, Christopher Coker of Jefferson City, and Joshua Scott of Holts Summit; three sisters, Danielle Scott of Jefferson City, Hollie Scott of Jefferson City, Trisha Winterstein of Jefferson City; maternal grandparents, Tom and Cecilia Whalen of Jefferson City; four nieces, Katie Strange, Jaiden Munsterman, Destiny Scott, Alexa Scott; two nephews, David Jorgensen, and Donta Scott; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her dad, Dave O. Scott, on March 26, 2008. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, December 12, 2010, at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Holts Summit, where a prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 13, 2010, at Helias High School, with Fr. Brendan Doyle and Rev. Msgr. Gregory L. Higley officiating. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
