Matthew Paul Stewart, 53, of Eldon, Missouri, died peacefully in his sleep on September 7, 2021, at Eldon Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Eldon, Missouri. Matt was born in St. Louis on July 1, 1968, to Paul and Tina Stewart. He graduated from Missouri School for the Blind in St. Louis, Missouri in 1986, and moved with his parents to Eldon in 1996. Matt was employed for many years at Gateway Industries sheltered workshop in Eldon until his total blindness, deafness, and other disabilities compelled his retirement. He loved his job and his many friends at Gateway Industries. Matt was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and rarely wore any attire other than one of his many Cardinals jerseys. He loved his annual week at Wonderland Camp and was a member of Ninth Street Christian Church in Eldon. Matt was preceded in death by his parents and sister Caron Orr Mathis of Tucson, Ariz. He is survived by his sister, Cathy Waltz (Randy) of Jefferson City; aunt, Paula Brennan (Jerry) of Quincy, Ill. and Bradenton, Fla.; uncle, Jack Stewart (Donna) of Wildwood and Lake Ozark, Mo.; nephews, Joshua Waltz (Elizabeth) of St. Charles, Mo. and Benjamin Orr of Tucson, Ariz.; and by numerous cousins. Visitation will be at Phillips Funeral Home in Eldon starting at noon on Saturday, September 18, 2021, with services at 1:00 p.m., followed by burial in the family plot at the Oakland Cemetery in Moberly, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Matt's name to Wonderland Camp, 18591 Miller Circle, Rocky Mount, MO 65072 would be appreciated.
