Carolyn Joyce Silvey, age 83, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Saturday, October 16, 2021, at the University Hospital in Columbia, Mo. surrounded by family. Carolyn was born on November 8, 1937, in Kansas City, Mo., a daughter of Ernest Elmer and Lorena Mae (Smiley) Housworth. A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Carolyn grew up in Versailles, Mo. and graduated from Versailles High School in 1955. It was during her time in high school that she met the love of her life, Bill Silvey. She was married on November 19, 1955, in Versailles, Mo. to William Robert "Bill" Silvey, who preceded her in death on August 26, 2013. Family was always the center of Carolyn's life and she cherished the role of being a homemaker while her children were younger. She truly lived life for her kids and grandchildren. Later in life she worked as a sales clerk with Sears and JCPenney's for several years. She possessed a strong faith and recently became a member of St. Martin Catholic Church. She loved volunteering every Thursday at the St. Martin's School cafeteria to serve the kids lunch. Previously, she had been a member of Capital West Christian Church and was involved with First Baptist Church in Versailles, Mo. when she was younger. During her free time, Carolyn enjoyed crocheting and knitting. She was a talented seamstress and would often make items for family and friends. Some of the afghans she made were donated to the program "Afghans for Angels". She was an avid reader and enjoyed the friendships she made through her book club. Survivors include: two children, Joyce "Joy" Bax (husband Bob) and Jeff Silvey (wife Monica), both of Jefferson City, Mo.; six grandchildren, Jeremy Silvey (wife Jessica), Andrew Bax (wife Tiffany), Jennifer Silvey, Lauren Holt (husband Carter), Jorden Bax (wife Sarah) and Erick Feeley; 15 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Betty Housworth of Warrensburg, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 57 years, Bill; and her brother, Loren Housworth. Visitation will be held at St. Martin Catholic Church from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 20, 2021. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at St. Martin Catholic Church with the Reverend Jason T. Doke officiating. Graveside services and entombment will be held at the Mausoleum of Riverview Cemetery. A webcast of Carolyn's Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday for friends that are not able to attend by going to her memorial page on Freeman Mortuary's website. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Martin Catholic School, 7148 St. Martins Blvd., Jefferson City, MO 65109.
