Marilyn Lorene Solomon, age 87, of Fayette, passed away October 11, 2021. She was born February 12, 1934, in Fayette and was graduated from Glasgow High School in 1952. On February 19, 1954, she was married to Clell Solomon, and throughout the 1950s gave birth to three children: Lisa (Jim) Shoemaker of Liberty, Missouri; Bradley (Sharyn) Solomon of Lawrence, Kansas; and Lana Solomon of Jefferson City, Missouri. Marilyn followed her husband and his employment to Caruthersville and West Plains; and then to Jefferson City, where she was employed for 28 years by the Division of Employment Security in both Jefferson City and Columbia until her retirement in 1996, when she moved to Tannenbaum Christmas Tree Farm near Armstrong. She enjoyed traveling to all 50 states with her husband, including two trips to Alaska, two trips to Hawaii; and special trips to Spain and Japan. She was an avid reader of non-fiction books, and loved listening to '30s, '40s, and '50s pop and country music. Making huge meals for her family and serving them on the harvest dining table handmade by Clell gave her such purpose. Her greatest joy in life was her family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Nelson and Irene Dougherty Brown; her sister, Judy Eads; her niece, Kelly Eads; and a very special aunt, Lena Dougherty Foley. Surviving are her husband Clell of the home; all three of her children; and grandchildren, Whitney (Brett) Luckenbill of Carmel, Indiana, Regan (J.R.) Rockenfield of Kansas City, Missouri, Kylie Stricklin of Blue Springs, Missouri, Drake Detwiler of Columbia, Missouri; and Elena (John) Thorpe of Lafayette, Colorado. In addition, Marilyn leaves behind 11 great-grandchildren: Ava and Jack Luckenbill (twins), Henry James Rockenfield, Peter Chipman Rockenfield, and Claudia Kathryn Rockenfield, Dawson Grace Stricklin, Sutton Jennings Stricklin, Bowen Paul Stricklin, and Grayden Perry Stricklin, Hudson Wyatt Thorpe and Jack Henry Thorpe. Marilyn was married to her dearly loved husband of 67 years and was an active member of First Baptist Church in Fayette for over 30 years. Drake Detwiler, Jim Shoemaker, Brett Luckenbill, J.R. Rockenbill, Dave Teter, and Mark Belcher will serve as pallbearers. Dear friends, Terry Rollins, Berkley Barton, and Ken Blakely are recognized as honorary pallbearers. Family members will receive visitors at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 15, until the funeral service at 11 a.m., at First Baptist Church in Fayette, 101 W. Davis Street. Interment will be at Walnut Ridge Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial donation to First Baptist Church, Fayette, or to Hometown Homecare Hospice, 101 Furr St., Fayette. Final arrangements are under the direction of Friemonth-Freese Funeral Service of Fayette.
