Billie Jewell Setser, 90, formerly of Eldon, passed away April 30, 2021, at Lakewood Assisted Living in Springfield, Mo. She was born December 24, 1930, in Tuscumbia, Mo., the daughter of William and Carmen Hicks-Thompson. Billie was united in marriage to Jerry A. Setser on September 16, 1954, in Belle, Mo. Together they had a son named John. Billie graduated from Tuscumbia High School in 1948, and went on to attend Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg and the Kansas City Business College, Kansas City, Mo. She began her career teaching in a one-room school located in Capps, Mo. She later worked for Pryor Novelty Company and as the office manager for Clark Brothers Contracting Company in Eldon, Mo. She retired in 1975. Billie was a member of Oak Street Church of Christ in Eldon, Mo. After Jerry's retirement, the couple spent most of their days enjoying friends and family and time on the farm with their cattle, dogs and cats. Billie also enjoyed going to auctions, collecting antique dishes, reading, and working numerous puzzles. She cherished the moments spent with her beloved husband (Jerry), son (John) and a very special grandson (Justin). Billie was preceded in death by her husband Jerry; brother, Merl Thompson (Ina); sister, Janice Halderman (Earl); and sister-in-law, Kathryn Abbott (Walter). Survivors include her son, John Setser (Debbie); grandson, Justin (Melanie); great-grandchildren, Savannah, Marlow, and Hendrick Setser, all of Springfield, Mo. One brother, Leon Thompson (Karen); one sister, Linda Birdsong (James); and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at Millard Family Cremation and Funeral Center in Eldon, Missouri. Funeral Service will be at 1:00 p.m. led by Bro. Phil Thompson (nephew). Interment will follow at the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Tuscumbia, Missouri. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation or the Diabetes Association.
