Robert Jr. Vest Hirst

Robert Vest Hirst Jr., 85, of Tipton, passed away Wednesday, March 17, 2021, at St. Mary's Hospital in Jefferson City, Mo. He was born June 22, 1935, to Vest and Fern (McGill) Hirst at Fremont, Mo. On November 4, 1961, he was united in marriage to Glenda Nau at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Tipton. Junior attended Baxter School and Tipton Public School, graduating from Tipton High School in 1953. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1953 and served until 1957. Junior worked for United Telephone Company and Sprint, retiring in 1993. He loved working with his cattle operation and also enjoyed gardening and hunting. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the love of his life. Survivors include his wife Glenda of 59 years; three children, Jeannette (Jon) Daniel, Rob (Deb) Hirst, and Lawrence (Tracy) Cooper; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren with one more on the way; two brothers, Paul (Diana) Hirst, Ronnie (Judi) Hirst; and one sister, Carol Wirths. In addition to both of his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Tina Hirst-Cooper; and one sister, Phyllis Huddleston. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 20, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the Meisenheimer Funeral Home in Tipton. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home with full military honors to follow provided by the American Legion Edgar Cole Post 304 and the United States Navy. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Central Missouri Honor Flight in care of Meisenheimer Funeral Home.
