Joan Winifred Colozza, age 89, of California, Mo., passed away on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital in Jefferson City, surrounded by her family. She was born July 11, 1931, in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Edgar E. and Eunice C. (Remley) Willett. After her mother's tragic death in 1936, she and her twin sister, Joyce, were raised by her aunt and uncle, Ethel (Remley) and William Bower. She graduated from California High School in 1949. Joan was married to Paul Colozza on August 30, 1952, in Washington D.C. at St. Stephens Catholic Church. They moved to California in 1955 to start their family farm, which they lived on for 47 years. Joan retired in 1988 from the Missouri Department of Revenue. She was a member of the Ladies Sodality at Annunciation Catholic Church. She enjoyed quilting at the church and spending time with the Sewing Club in California. She volunteered at the Moniteau County Library, Project Share (MCMC), and Afghans for Angels. She was all about family, playing cards, games, and bingo. She also enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, and baking, especially yeast rolls and apple pies. She never knew a stranger and loved talking with people. Joan is survived by her children: Paul W. (Debbie) Colozza, Kansas City; Regina (Mike) Stock, California; Genevieve Spears, Holts Summit; Patty (Clif) Sampson, California; Jim Colozza, Sugar Hill, Ga.; Theresa (Phillp) Verslues, Holts Summit; and Larry (Polly) Colozza, Jefferson City; daughter-in-law, Ratanawan "At" Colozza, of Arizona; 16 grandchildren; 20 great- grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Colozza in 2006; infant son, Michael Colozza in 1955; a son, Charles Colozza in 1982; her siblings, Lawrence "Larry" Willett, Eunice "Babe" Foley, Patricia "Pat" Ficker, her twin sister, Joyce Veit; and son-in-law, Donald Spears. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 14, 2021, 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Windmill Ridge Funeral Service. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, July 15, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at Annunciation Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Annunciation Catholic Cemetery.
