Alfred Joseph Doerhoff

Alfred Joseph Doerhoff, age 88, of St. Elizabeth, passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2021, at The Timbers Assisted Living. He was born in St. Elizabeth on July 17, 1932, son of the late Herman and Emma (Huhman) Doerhoff. Alfred was united in marriage to the late Mary Ann Bode Struemph on November 27, 1987, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. Mary Ann preceded Alfred in death on June 20, 2019. Although very tall in stature at 6' 7", he was a kind, gentle soul. He was a devout Catholic and a lifetime member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church. Alfred served his country in the Korean War conflict and was honorably discharged after four years of service. Alfred was a talented craftsman. He spent countless hours woodworking - his children and grandchildren proudly display his beautiful pieces in their homes. Prior to retirement, much of his time was also devoted to caring for his family farm in St. Elizabeth. He loved spending time with his family, playing cards, fishing and bowling. He is survived by six children - Joann Young (Ken) of Carbondale, Ill., Lewis Struemph (Ronnie) of O'Fallon, James Struemph (Pat) of St. Elizabeth, Frank Struemph (Carol) of Villa Ridge, Stan Struemph (Theresa) of St. Elizabeth, and Paul Struemph (Karen) of St. Thomas; daughter-in-law, Linda Struemph of Washington; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and four on the way; seven sisters, Sister Mary Julitta, Rosana Weidinger, Loretta (Jerry) Weiler, Dottie (Bernie) Rupp, Julitta (John) Langle, Evelyn (John) VanGoethem, and Carolyn (Steve) Stolberg; and numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Along with his parents and wife, Alfred was preceded in death by his brother, Bernard Doerhoff; sister, Dolores Stover; sister-in-law, Mary Doerhoff; brother-in-law, Robert Weidinger; son, Dennis Struemph; and granddaughter, Katalin Young. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., with a family viewing from 10 to 11 a.m., on Thursday, January 28, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church with Fr. Joby Parakkacharuvil Thomas officiating. The public is welcome to attend the graveside service with military honors at 12 (noon) on Thursday, January 28, at St. Lawrence Cemetery in St. Elizabeth. Facial masks are mandatory for everyone attending the Mass. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Lawrence Catholic Church and Mass intentions.
