Rose Mary Buschjost, age 91, of St. Thomas, passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at Westphalia Hills. She was born in St. Elizabeth on December 23, 1929, daughter of the late John and Rosa (Massman) Bax. On June 27, 1953, in St. Elizabeth, Rose Mary was united in marriage to Ernest Louis Buschjost, who preceded her in death on May 16, 2011. In her earlier years Rose Mary attended Schanzmeyer and St. Elizabeth Schools. She had a strong work ethic and was employed with various companies including Woolworth Co. and Southwest Bell Telephone Co. in St. Louis, Tweedies Shoe Factory in Jefferson City, and St. Thomas Baseball Factory. She also worked for Boesson Catering for 15 years in Jefferson City. Rose Mary was a faithful member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in St. Thomas. She was a past officer and belonged to the Ladies Sodality. She volunteered her time as a 4-H leader for 12 years in gardening, cooking, and home interiors in various years. Rose Mary volunteered at the St. Elizabeth Care Center helping with bingo, quilting, and various activities. She served as secretary of the Board of Elderly Housing for many years. Rose Mary was co-leader of the quilters of the St. Thomas Parish. She was a member of the Ladies VFW Auxiliary Argyle #8045, serving as Senior Vice for the Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary #1567 St. Judes Assembly and of the St. Thomas Over 50 Club. In addition to being an active member of her community, Rose Mary enjoyed various activities including gardening, quilting, dancing, playing cards, and attending garage sales. She loved spending time with her family and her faith in the Lord was unconditional. She is survived by four sons, Randy Buschjost (Charlene) of St. Thomas, Kenny Buschjost (Sherry) of Osage Bend, Paul Buschjost (Elaine) of Russellville, and Joe Buschjost (Julie) of St. Thomas; three daughters, Janet Weckenborg (Dennis) and Carol Kirk (Brian), both of St. Elizabeth, and Lynn Frey (Mike) of Rolla; 21 grandchildren, Jason Buschjost, Mike Buschjost, Anna Luecke, Elizabeth Skinner, Brian Weckenborg, Justin Weckenborg, Nancy Weckenborg, Abby Horsewood, Lacy Jurgens, Andy Scherf, Kimberly Luebbering, Christopher Buschjost, Katie Pandolfo, Jacob Buschjost, Daniel Buschjost, Jessica Wieberg, Jennifer Horton, Jonathan Buschjost, Shelby Schanzmeyer, Logan Schanzmeyer, and Canon Schanzmeyer; 22 great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Martha Strope. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Henry Bax and Ilde Bax, and one sister, Eleanor Schmeig. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon, with Mass of Christian Burial immediately following at 12 noon, on Friday, January 22, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in St. Thomas with Fr. Leonard Mukiibi officiating. Interment will be held at St. Thomas Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to Masses, St. Thomas Church, or Argyle VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
