Zola Mae Lay, age 93, departed this life at her daughter's residence in Tebbetts, Missouri, on January 11, 2021. Daughter of the late Jessie Martin Prater and Elsie Minnie (Douglas) Prater, was born in Black, Missouri, on April 30, 1927. On December 9, 1946, in St. Louis, Missouri, Zola was united in marriage to Emmit Lay and to this union five children were born. Emmit preceded her in death on September 14, 2007. Zola was a lifetime resident of Bunker, Missouri. She was saved and baptized at an early age. Zola enjoyed sewing, embroidering, her puppy dog "Cooper" and taking care of animals. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and grandkids. Zola was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother, Bill Prater, and six sisters, Beulah, Eula, Freda, Ola, Doshia and Bonnie, and one grandchild, J.J. Michaelis. Zola is survived by her son, David Lay of Bunker, Missouri; four daughters, Yawny Hodge of Bunker, Missouri, Susan Johnson and husband Dave of Tebbetts, Missouri, Carol Stricklin and husband Joey of Bunker, Missouri, and Liz Charis of Grand Junction, Colorado; one sister, Ruth Fulhorst of Linn Creek, Missouri; 10 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. Visitation: Thursday, January 14, 2021, from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. at McSpadden Funeral Home, Bunker, Missouri. Funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Kennard Mayfield officiating. Burial will be at Lower Bee Fork Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Hodge, D.J. Johnson, Rob Johnson, Kenny Lay, Mark Brickey and Brian Cahill. Honorary Pallbearer is Denver Bryant. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer's Foundation of America or Hospice Compassus of Jefferson City, Missouri. Arrangements by McSpadden Funeral Home, Bunker, Missouri.
