Robert L. "Bob" Jenkins

Robert L. "Bob" Jenkins, 92, of Lexington, Mo., passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2021. He was born July 24, 1928, in Independence, Mo., the son of John and Ellen (Grechus) Jenkins. He graduated from Lexington High School in 1946. After High School, Bob served in the US Navy during WWII, and then he served in the Missouri National Guard for 40 years. Bob worked for Beiler Manufacturing and Supply Company in the late 50's. Later he was a Meat Cutter for Kenny's Supermarket, Pat's Quick Stop, Harold's Supermarket, A & P Grocery, and Ball Supermarket. From 1982 through his retirement in 1992, Bob worked as a Mechanic for Olin - Lake City Army Ammo Plant. Robert was married to Ethel Munckton, on June 4, 1949, at the Presbyterian Church, Lexington, Mo. Ethel preceded him in death on May 5, 2012. Bob was a member of UFCW District Union Local Two (Meat Cutter) and served as Fourth Ward Councilman for the city of Lexington. On June 29, 1988, he was honored with a congressional record for his 42 years of service in the military by Congressman Ike Skelton. Bob loved to tell jokes, cowboy movies (especially John Wayne), hunting, fishing, and playing the harmonica. One of his most favorite pastimes was cooking and listening to country music. On December 31, 2014, Bob was united at a Commitment Ceremony at the Trinity United Church of Christ in Lexington, to Mary Jane Woodward. Mary Jane preceded him in death on December 14, 2020. Bob is survived by his daughter, Cathy F. (Jim) Pohle, Lexington; two sons, Robert L. (Teresa A.) of Holts Summit, and Charles E. Jenkins, Overland Park, Kan.; six grandchildren, Stephanie D. (Brian) Hufendiek, Becky N. (Jeremy) Gore, Devon R Lile, Robert L.(Cara) Jenkins, III, Brian K.(Christina) Jenkins, and Jimmie M. (Jolene) Pohle; 10 great-grandchildren, Colin (Abby) O'Leary, Morgan Pohle, Tanner Lile, Brogan Gore, Taylee Lile, Jace Gore, Wyatt Jenkins, Luke Jenkins, Charlotte Jenkins, and Tyler Jenkins; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bob was also preceded by his brother, John Jenkins, on January 8, 2018, and his sister, Rev. Sharron Heathman, on January 2, 2021. Visitation will be held Friday, January 15, 2021, from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at Walker-Nadler-Fuller Funeral Home in Lexington, Mo, with Rev. Liz Deveney officiating. Memorial Services will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Liz Deveney officiating. Private Family Inurnment will be held at Missouri Veterans Cemetery-Higginsville.
