Donna Sue Hatfield

Mrs. Donna Sue Hatfield, age 66 years, of Tonganoxie, Kan., passed away Thursday, January 7, 2021, at The University of Kansas Medical Center due to complications from COVID-19. Donna was born February 23, 1954, in Jefferson City, Mo., the daughter of Donald E. and Mabel R. (Patton) Brown. She was married on December 27, 1975, in Jefferson City, Mo. to Richard Edward "Dick" Hatfield, who survives at the home. Donna was a 1972 graduate of Jefferson City High School. She and Dick were long-term residents of central Missouri, until moving to Tonganoxie, Kan. to be closer to their grandchildren. She was an avid follower of the Jefferson City Jays, St. Louis Cardinals and Mizzou Tigers sports teams, in addition to embracing the Kansas City Chiefs once moving to the area. Donna attended Tonganoxie Christian Church and it was not a normal Sunday unless she and Dick took their grandchildren to Sunday school. Her joys in life were visiting with friends and family, reading, and watching Hallmark movies. What she cherished most of all was seeing her grandchildren. Donna was employed by Cohen-Esrey in Merriam, Kan. She thoroughly enjoyed her job and continued to work full-time, providing accounting services until she became ill. Survivors include: her loving husband of 45 years, Dick Hatfield; five children, William "Bill" Hatfield, Kimberly Hatfield, and Virginia "Ginger" Steinmetz, all of Jefferson City, Ryan Hatfield (wife Joanne) of Tonganoxie, Kan., Kelly Ralston (husband Bryan) of Pike Road, Ala.; four grandchildren, Riley Hatfield, Charlotte Hatfield, Georgia Hatfield, and Bryce Ralston; and several nieces and nephews. Donna was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Mark Steinmetz; sister, Kristi Brown; and brothers, Robert Brown and Kenny Brown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Leavenworth County Humane Society or The University of Kansas Health System Cancer Care.
