Eileen Johanettie Alice Borgelt Smith, age 94, of Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2021. Eileen was born August 25, 1926, in New Melle, Missouri, the daughter of the late Edgar and Edna Borgelt. She was baptized September 19, 1926, and confirmed March 22, 1940, at Saint Paul's Lutheran Church, New Melle, Missouri. She graduated from Fulton High School in 1944. She was married to Harold Duane Smith on June 6, 1953, in Kingdom City, Missouri. Eileen worked at the Poultry Association, Farm Bureau Insurance, Faith Lutheran Church, and Family Benefit Life Insurance both full and part time while raising her family. Eileen was a member of Faith Lutheran Church since 1954. She served as church secretary, Sunday School teacher, and as a volunteer and later leader of the Lutheran Braille Workers for several years. She was a room mother, Cub Scout Leader, and supporter of Jefferson City Jay basketball, seldom missing a game, home or away, for eight years as all three boys played on the team. Eileen enjoyed doing counted cross stitch embroidery and making chocolate chip cookies for her children and later grandchildren. Her quick wit kept her three boys in line and she loved them deeply as they loved her. Survivors include her husband, Harold; three children, Mark (Deidre) Smith, Ankeny, Iowa; Paul (Deborah) Smith, Leawood, Kansas; and Kevin (Elizabeth) Smith, Overland Park, Kansas; four grandchildren, Cameron Smith, Melinda Smith, Kristen (Joshua) Keglovits, and Ryan (Katherine) Smith; and great-grandchild, Ellie Keglovits. Eileen was preceded in death by her sister, Gladys Linnenbringer, Hatton, Missouri, and is survived by her brother, Clifford Borgelt, Kingdom City, Missouri, and sister, Jayne Boeckelman, Glen Ellyn, Illinois. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m., Tuesday February 23 at Faith Lutheran Church, 2027 Industrial Drive, Jefferson City, Missouri. The funeral will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens, Fulton, Missouri. The general public is welcome to attend services while following social distancing guidelines. Facial covers are encouraged while in attendance.
