William "Bill" Joseph Prenger, 81, of Jefferson City, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 31, 2021, at Capital Region Medical Center after fighting a battle with lymphoma cancer. He was surrounded by his loving wife, children and grandchildren. William was born on February 17, 1940, in Jefferson City to the late Joseph and Mary Nadine (Rogers) Prenger. William was joined in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Marie Schneider on February 8, 1958. They were married by Msgr. Vogelweid at St. Peter Catholic Church where they were members their entire life. In his early years, William worked over 23 years as a meatcutter for his father's family owned business, Igloo Meatlocker Plant. He also owned and operated Tom's Peanut Distributor for five years. William joined the Jefferson City Fire Department in 1971 and was employed there for 23 years until his retirement in 1994 as a Captain. William enjoyed many years of camping with his family and friends. He loved fishing, spending time outdoors and having fun with the kids and grandkids on the river. He and Carolyn went on many trips and cruises, one of his favorites being a cruise to Alaska. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Carolyn Prenger; three children: Thomas Prenger (Carol), Timothy Prenger (Tracy) and Connie Seabaugh (Kevin); eight grandchildren: Nathan Prenger (Megan), Brittney Phillips (Evan), Taylor McCoy (Tom), Tatum Prenger, Kyle Seabaugh (Carrie), Tyler Seabaugh (Brittany), Ashley Atkins (David) and Dustin Prenger; 15 great-grandchildren: Brennen, Brogan and Jayde Prenger; Layton and Jaxon Phillips; Mallory, Carson and Audrey Seabaugh; Beckett and Hadley Seabaugh; Gracie, Sadie and Kohen Atkins; Cambria and Aiden Prenger. William was preceded in death by his son: Troy M. Prenger; parents: Joseph and Mary Nadine Prenger; and his sister: Beverly Burlbaw. Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 5, 2021, at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors. Prayer services will immediately follow at 12:00 p.m. with Fr. Jeremy Secrist officiating. Entombment will be held at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
