James Eugene Redel, 84, of Vienna, departed this life on Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at his residence. He was born January 5, 1937, at Jefferson City, the youngest son of 12 children of George James and Agnes Frances (Bade) Redel. He was united in marriage on July 25, 1959, at Westphalia, to the former Miss Jeanne Frances Fechtel, and to this union, four children were born. Jim was a 1954 graduate of Vienna High School and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Central Missouri State, Warrensburg, in 1959, where he also played varsity baseball. Jim received his Master's Degree in Counseling from the University of Missouri, Columbia, in 1969. He taught and coached at St. George High School, Hermann, and later taught at Cuba High School as well. Jim was an insurance adjuster with State Farm Insurance; worked for the Missouri Division of Employment Security, Rolla; and finally employed as Equal Employment Officer Director, Fort Leonard Wood, for 30 years, retiring in 2000. He was a devoted member of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Vienna; the Vienna Lions Club; the Argyle Knights of Columbus Council 2047; and a volunteer worker for the Loaves and Fishes Program, Vienna. Jim, along with JC Hutchison, helped to establish the Khoury League Softball program, was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Mizzou Tigers fan, and was a high school basketball referee. He especially enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren playing sports, playing his poker game, fishing, and being a part of the morning coffee gang. Those left to mourn the passing of Jim include: His wife of 61 years, Jeanne; his children, Becky (Reggie) Snodgrass, Rolla; Judy (Jack) Fagan, O'Fallon; Tom (Denise) Redel, Kansas City; and Amy (Bryan) Pendleton, Rolla; his grandchildren, Doug (Allison) Snodgrass, Melissa (Andy) Lakers, Jeff (Azin) Snodgrass; Caitlin Fagan, Erin Fagan, Parker Redel, Rhett Redel, Zach Pendleton, and Emily Pendleton; his great-grandchildren, Jane and Theo Snodgrass, and Alexis and Madison Lakers; two sisters, Mary Hefferly, Washington, D.C. and Jane (Ralph) Sordyl, Springfield, Illinois; nephews, nieces, with greats and great-greats as well; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, George (11-11-1963); his mother, Agnes (5-22-1994); siblings, Margaret (Richard) Muncy) Jones, Marcella Redel, George (Irene) Redel, Andrian (Rose) Redel, Owen (Bonnie) Redel, Con (Betty) Redel, Virginia Redel, and infants, Kathleen Redel at seven months and Jerome Redel at three years. All attending the visitation and funeral Mass for Mr. James E. Redel are required to wear personal masks or other personal protective equipment, follow social distancing and close contact guidelines, and adhere to COVID-19 protocol. Visitation for Mr. Redel will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 12, 2021, in Visitation Catholic Church, 105 North Main Street, Vienna, MO 65582, with his Mass of Christian Burial following at 11:00 a.m., in the church with Rev. Matthew Flatley as the celebrant and Rev. Basil Tigga assisting, under the direction of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna. Interment will be in the Visitation Cemetery, Vienna, with Doug Snodgrass, Jeff Snodgrass, Parker Redel, Rhett Redel, Zach Pendleton, Leonard Wansing, Danny Schwartze, and Norb Schwartze serving as Jim's pallbearers.
