Virginia Mae Waller, age 95, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Sunday, October 4, 2020, at the Capital Region Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Virginia was born March 13, 1925 in Cole County, Mo., the daughter of Walter Lloyd and Rosa Lee (Barger) Peterson. She was married on August 31, 1946 in Jefferson City, Mo. to Ira Herbert Waller, who preceded her in death on January 16, 1991. A lifelong resident of Cole County, Virginia graduated from Jefferson City High School. She worked many years in retail for numerous companies in Jefferson City: Wyndst Furniture, JC Penney, 3M Electronics Business and retired from her work at Zales. Virginia was a long-time member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where she served as the church secretary as needed throughout the years. She was an avid reader and enjoyed studying history. Her favorite memories were spent with her family, who she would lovingly share her life stories with from time to time. Virginia was well traveled and was known to collect rocks on her journeys. Some of her most talked about trips were to Denmark, Canada, Colorado, Cape Cod and Washington D.C. Virginia's family will remember her compassionate heart and independent nature. Survivors include: her daughter, Rose Cole (Donnie Faughn Jr.) of Columbia, Mo.; two sisters, Rose McKinley of Barnett, Mo. and Patricia Daro of Fulton, Mo.; grandson, Justin Cole (Dacia) of Columbia, Mo.; her great-granddaughter, Victoria Cole; several nieces and nephews; and her loving neighbors to whom she was so thankful for their help. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 44 years, Ira; two infant sons, Roger Waller and Robert Waller; sister, Wanda Burd; brothers-in-law, Allen "Smoky" Burd, Calvert McKinley, and Cliford Daro; nephew, Gary Boulware; and nieces, Brenda Porter, Lisa Blain and Linda McKinley. Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 9, 2020. The general public is welcome to attend the visitation while following social distancing guidelines. The family has requested that anyone in attendance wear a protective mask. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 9, 2020 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Shane Crum officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. A webcast of her funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Friday for friends that are not able to attend by going to her memorial page on Freeman Mortuary's website.
