Robert H. Hess, 83, of Eldon, passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2020, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 7, 1936 in Des Moines, Iowa, a son of the late Otto and Mary Jane (Robinson) Hess. He was united in marriage to Marlene Yarolem on April 5, 2008 in Eldon. He graduated high school and attended college in Des Moines. He joined the Army in August of 1954 and proudly served his country as an Artillery Intelligence Specialist and Map Draftsman. He left the Army with the rank of Sergeant. For many years he sold advertising for a local Des Moines radio station and then worked for the 3M Corporation as a dispatcher. Bob's true passion was for singing karaoke. He was known locally as Iowa Bob and would search out the local karaoke bar wherever he traveled. He and his wife also enjoyed going to casinos. His family will greatly miss his presence in their lives. He is survived by his wife: Marlene Hess; sons: John Parker, Dennis Parker (Elaine), Mike Parker (Rebecca), Otis Parker, and Richard Rabineau; daughters: Betty Smith and Carol Henricks; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at Millard-Rekus Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Interment will be at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa on Thursday, May 21, 2020 at 2:30 p.m. with full military honors.
