Raymond "Ray" Estil NewMay 17th, 2020
Raymond "Ray" Estil New, age 79, of Holts Summit, Missouri, succumbed to a long-term illness on Wednesday, May 13, 2020. Ray was born in Spann, Kentucky and enlisted in the Army at age 18 and married his beloved, Judith "Judy" Martel when he was 20. Ray and his young family traveled the US and Germany in his service to country as a Combat Engineer who served two terms in Vietnam and when he retired after his honorable service of 25 years, he had served as an E7 SFC Drill Instructor, respected by his troops. When he retired from the Army, he went to work for the State of Missouri at the Missouri State Penitentiary (MSP). While working at MSP, he became widowed, and had great fortune to find love a second time and married Charleyn Morris in 1991. Ray valued work and keeping busy, so when he retired from MSP as a Counselor after 25 years, he began working for the New Bloomfield School System as a bus driver for 10 years. Family was important to Ray. He had a great sense of humor, often having people laughing. He was always available to lend a helping hand. He loved nature and watching wildlife which was abundant at his home. He was an avid vegetable gardener, and loved taking all day to mow his lawn. He also enjoyed riding bikes with family, fishing, carpentry and building intricate model railroads and landscapes with his children and grandchildren. He loved hanging out on the porch with his Charleyn and his cat, Miss Grey. He was passionate about JC High and college football. He loved keeping score with his brother, Erstle, over the Kentucky Wildcats and MU basketball. He also enjoyed celebrating the 4th of July and family BBQs. Just in case you didn't know Ray, he could be very mischievous - it was never a problem to find a grandkid to tag along and help him out. Ray is survived by his wife, Charleyn; daughters, Vicky Davidson and Donna Zehnder (Randall); son, Randall New (Leizel); brother, Erstle of Kentucky; nephew, Terry New and niece, Sherri New. His step-children are Samuel Morris, Chuck Morris (Kristy) and Stefani Morris-Davis. His grandchildren are Bryan, Miranda, Kristin, Regan, Nathan, Ryan and Nicki. The step-grandchildren are Samuel, Stacia, Connor, Robert, Kaleb, Ashley and Jamie. Great-grandchildren are Lilian, Eli and Kiyaan. Step-great-grandchildren are Addy, Cameron and Jayce. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Pearlie; wife, Judith; and nephew, Dwayne New. The service will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 18, 2020, officiated by Bart Larson and supported by Houser-Millard Funeral Directors.
