Giovanna GraceffaMay 17th, 2020
Giovanna Graceffa, age 67, of Aragona Sicily Italy passed away on Monday, May 4, 2020, in the comfort of her home surrounded by family after fighting a long battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Bernardo Graceffa, of the home; two sons: Calogero Graceffa of Aragona Sicily and Carmelo Graceffa of Jefferson City, and his wife Kritsia; sister: Angela Salamone of Aragona Sicily; and brother-in-law: Franco Graceffa and his wife Caroline of Boston, Massachusetts. Giovanna was a devout Catholic and was a Catechist teaching young children at the local Madonna of Rosario Catholic Church where she was a lifetime parishioner. She was a devoted wife and mother. Family in the Italian tradition meant everything to her. She was an incredible cook, enjoyed driving through the countryside with Bernardo and picking out the perfect tomatoes, herbs and spices grown locally just to create the best sauces to go with a dish of pasta. She enjoyed entertaining friends including Fr. Medina, Rich and Reid at her brother-in-law's countryside villa. Giovanna was a high school teacher in Aragona for more than 35 years. She also enjoyed being an artist, drawing and working in their garden with flowers and vegetables. A Celebration of Life with Giovanna's favorite Italian Catholic prayers will be held today, Sunday, May 17, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. with Fr. Ignazio C. Medina officiating. Family and friends from around the world will join Carmelo via Zoom for this special tribute to his mother, Giovanna, since he was not able to return to Aragona for his mother's funeral mass. The Graceffa's have been a part of the Millard family for more than 30 years and have visited Jefferson City many times. In these uncertain times, our family wanted to join the Graceffa family from around the world for this special tribute to such a wonderful lady, Giovanna. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Madonna of Rosario Catholic Church or a Catholic church of your choice. Arrangements are under the direction of HOUSER-MILLARD Funeral Directors, 2613 West Main Street, Jefferson City, MO 65109, (573) 636-3838.
