Melvin Leonard

Melvin Leonard, 85, of Holts Summit, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2020, at Holts Summit Villa. He was born on November 20, 1934, in Jefferson City; a son of the late William and Josephine (Welch) Leonard. Melvin began a career as a deputy with the Cole County Sheriff's office. After several years he left and went to work for the Department of Insurance and then on to the Department of Corrections where he retired after 30 years of service. He was a lifelong member and past president of the Eagles 2693. He served as local officers and Grand Aerie. He is survived by his daughter: Joyce Schaefferkoetter (Vic) of Rolla; siblings: Edward Leonard of Holts Summit and Lavern Sanders of Jefferson City; step-grandchildren: Victor Schaefferkoetter of Nebraska and Justin Schaefferkoetter of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. Melvin was preceded in death by his wives: Jane (Icenhower) Leonard and Betty Jo (Sturm) Leonard; and twin brother: Marvin Leonard. Friends will be received from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors. Entombment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
