Milton R. Barton, 81, of Jefferson City, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 11, 2020, at Capital Region Medical Center, surrounded by his family. He was born on April 26, 1938 in St. Louis, a son of the late Alton and Stella (Koch) Barton. Milton was a 1956 graduate of Bland High School. He was a stellar baseball player in high school, and during his four years of enlistment in the United States Navy he pitched for the Navy team throughout Europe. He played with the Jefferson City Redbirds baseball team and made many lifelong friends playing for them. Upon completion of his service, he attended Linn State Technical College and earned his electrician certificate. He worked for many years as an electrician locally, but was most proud of the 65 years he spent umpiring for local baseball programs, high schools and colleges. Milt volunteered with Meals on Wheels and was active at the Hyder Senior Center. They will greatly miss his kindness and dedicated service. Most of all, he loved his beautiful daughters and grandchildren. He is survived by his daughters: Deborah Reinertsen and Denise Hancock (Cliff); siblings: Glennon Barton (Mary Jane), Jimmy Barton (Bonnie), Patricia Tousant, Mary Williams, and Virginia Engelbrecht; grandchildren: Nicholas, Cole, Colten, and Eric; four great-grandchildren; and eight nephews and nieces. Graveside Services with military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 16, 2020 at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. Expressions of sympathy can be made to the Cole County Nutrition Center. Arrangements are under the direction of HOUSER-MILLARD Funeral Directors, 2613 West Main Street, Jefferson City, MO 65109, (573) 636-3838.
