Lois I. Whittler, 87, of Jefferson City, Missouri, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 3, 2020 at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital. She was born on December 16, 1932, in New Bloomfield, a daughter of the late John Wesley and Mary Ella (Jefferson) Childs. She was united in marriage in August 1956 to Elmer Whittler who preceded her in death in 1989. Lois graduated from Lincoln Laboratory High School. She was employed with the Missouri Department of Revenue for over 30 years until her retirement. Lois worked for Scholastic following retirement. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in New Bloomfield where she served as church secretary and Sunday School teacher. Lois served as a Guidepost Counselor and was a member of Grandmother's Prayer Vision. She liked crossword puzzles, reading, listening to music and attending Bible Study. Lois and her sister Mary Jane enjoyed traveling. Most of all, Lois cherished the times spent with her family and the Lord. She is survived by her children: Patricia Serafin (Roy) of Wyoming, Alivia Bamber, Don Whittler, Roger Whittler (Karen), all of Jefferson City, and Douglas Whittler of Kansas City; daughters-in-law: Bonnie Childs and Kathy Whittler; sisters: Florence Vaughan (Wes) and Carol Carthron; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, nine great great-grandchildren and a special cousin and friend: Mattie Murray. Lois was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons: Richard Childs and John Whittler; sister: Mary Jane Mitchell; and brother: Donald R. Childs. Friends will be received from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors with Rev. David Hartsfield and Dr. Arnold Parks officiating. Interment will follow in St. Paul United Methodist Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hospice Compassus.
