Jerry Lynn Herbert, 79, of Jefferson City, died Thursday, October 3, 2019, at his home. He was born September 27, 1940, in Bagnell, the son of Ivan Leonard and Hazel Victoria (Cotten) Herbert. He was a 1958 graduate of School of the Osage and attended Southwest Missouri State University and the University of Missouri - Rolla. Jerry was united in marriage in 1964 to Helen Backman, who preceded him in death in 1987. On December 9, 1989, Jerry was married at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jefferson City to Lana Kimberlin, who survives at their home. Jerry served in the Missouri Army National Guard from 1962 to 1968 and worked for Ameren UE until his retirement in 2005 as a construction supervisor. He was a volunteer at the Amtrak station in Jefferson City and was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he volunteered for a numerous variety of church projects. In his spare time, Jerry enjoyed fishing and traveling. In addition to his wife of 29 years, Jerry is survived by two sons: Michael Herbert and wife Michele of Eldon, Douglas Herbert and wife Cheryl of Lake Ozark; one step-daughter, Teresa Steinkuehler and husband Mark of Centertown; three sisters: Linda Munkers of Lake Ozark, Sharon Whitney of Columbia, Betty Belcher and husband Glen of Columbia; two grandchildren: Halle Herbert and Anna Herbert of Eldon; three step-grandchildren: Jessica Wilson and husband Keith of Jefferson City, Kyle Steinkuehler of Ft. Benning, Georgia, Olivia Tomlinson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and three great- grandchildren: Jack Steinkuehler, Hadley Steinhuehler and Sam Wilson. In addition to his first wife, Jerry was preceded in death by his parents. Friends will be received from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, October 6, 2019, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, where a rosary service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 7, 2019, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Louis M. Nelen officiating. Entombment will follow with full military honors in the Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Vitae Foundation, V.F.W.
