Charles Sr. H. Peters

Col (Ret.) Charles H. Peters Sr., age 84, of Loose Creek, passed away Monday, December 9, 2019, at Jefferson City Manor. Charles was born July 21, 1935, in Loose Creek, a son to the late Carter H. Peters Sr. and Louise (Haslag) Peters. Charles was a 1953 graduate of Fatima High School. On November 16, 1957, he was united in marriage to Betty Jean Distler at St. Martins Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on December 20, 2016. Charles was a retired Colonel for the National Guard and had been employed as a Logistics Officer for the Missouri National Guard in Jefferson City. Charles, and his wife Betty, also operated a hatchery and feed store in Loose Creek and owned and operated the Bermuda Shop in Jefferson City. Charles was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where he served on the Parish Council and Finance Committee. He was also a member of the Holy Name Society, a 4th Degree Member of Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 5 in Jefferson City where he was very active with their fund raisers, Forty and Eight Organization, Eagles Club in Jefferson City, and Loose Creek Community Club. He enjoyed traveling, dancing, watching MeTV, playing on his computer, and spending time with family and friends. Charles is survived by: one daughter, Jeanne Smith and her husband Willie of Jefferson City; a daughter-in-law, Rhonda Peters of Loose Creek; six grandchildren, Chad (Amy) Peters, Darren (Amanda) Peters, Tiffany (Jon Keenan) Peters, Brittany (Matthew) Pointer, Michelle Smith and Tanner Smith; five great- grandchildren, Tyler, Dylan, Olivia, Everett and Londyn; three brothers, Leon (Lucille) Peters, Larry (Katherine) Peters, Wayne Peters, all of Loose Creek; six sisters, Ruth Verslues, Evelen (Sylvester) Backes, Mary Lou (Norman) Bailey, Donna Jaegers, all of Loose Creek, Kathy (Wayne) Eynard of Bonnots Mill, and Janet (Roger) Klebba of Taos; a sister-in-law, Mary Pat Peters (Andy) Koenigsfeld; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and spouse of 59 years, Charles was preceded in death by one son, Charles Peters Jr.; a brother, Carter Peters Jr.; and a grandson, Darrel Peters. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2019, at Morton Chapel in Linn. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 13, 2019, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Fr. Callistus C. Okoroji as the celebrant. Interment will be in the Immaculate Conception Parish Cemetery with full Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Immaculate Conception Capital Campaign Fund.
