Thomas "Tommy" Joseph Parris, 79, of Jefferson City, passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2019, at Capital Region Medical Center. He was born on August 1, 1940, in a rented home in Blair, Nebraska, a son of Eugene T. and Marie G. (Adrian) Parris. The family were conducting river stabilizations, on the Missouri River. At six months of age they were moved back to Jefferson City. He was united in marriage on November 16, 1968, to Lola Kilgore at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was a 1959 graduate of Helias High School, where football was his favorite activity. Tom as a member of the first undefeated team in 1958, playing a defensive position that only allowed 13 total points against the Crusaders that season. Following graduation, he attended Lincoln University for two years but left to "go to work". He was drafted into the US Army but was discharged as 4F due to having had rheumatic fever as a child which affected his heart. He worked for 18 years as the office manager and reserve operator for Adrian Materials Company, joining the International Union of Operating Engineers in 1970. His favorite years of work were 11 years of working with the Operator Engineers at Reform, UE Projects and other projects. He met monthly with their retirement club. Tom later started his own business of Midwest Heat Transfer Equipment, selling and traveling until retirement. Most of Tom's hobbies were following his sons and grandchildren's sporting events that ranged from the Helias Crusdaers, Blair Oaks Falcons, and California Pintos. He also enjoyed following Notre Dame and Mizzou Tigers football. He also coached red flag football at Immaculate Conception School for eight years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus 1054 and was Grand Knight for two years and a candidate to National Convention in Montreal Canada during Expo 1967. He was also a member of Don Cappin 4th degree Knights of Columbus and participated as a member of Color Guard following Bishop Marling to all confirmations around the diocese. Tom is survived by his wife of 51 years: Lola Parris; children: Tim Parris (Sara), Kelley Crawford (Danny), Brent Parris (Dawn), Jason and Doug Parris; siblings: Jerry Parris (Patti), Shirley Gerling, Kathy Parris (sister-in-law) Karen Gerling, Debbie Crede, Jim Parris (Terra) and John Parris (Kathy); and grandchildren: Tobias Sturm, Sydney Parris, Nolan Sturm, Maggie Parris, Max Parris, Violet Parris, Cooper Parris, Sawyer Parris and Colt Parris. He is preceded in death by his parents: Eugene and Marie Parris; brothers: Adrian and Robert Parris; sister-in-law: Pam Parris; brothers-in-law: David Crede, Ron Hagstrom, Gary Kilgore, and Jeff Kilgore; niece: Becky Parris; nephew: Patrick Porter and great-niece: Ella Porter. Family and Friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, December 1, 2019, at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors with Prayer service to begin at 1:15 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 2, 2019, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, The Samaritan Center or to help someone in need.
