Leroy Hays

Leroy Hays, 79, of California, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City. He was born on November 13, 1932, in California, the son of Cecil Roy and Gladys Mabel "Hall" Hays, both of whom preceded him in death. He was married on June 9, 1955, at California, to Sue Ferguson. He attended Red Brush grade school and graduated from California High School in 1951. Leroy worked at Putnam Chevrolet as a salesman for 10 years and won numerous sales achievement awards. He made many lifelong friends of his customers and co-workers. Prior to his retirement in 1996 he worked in Security at Cargill. He also loved buying, selling and hauling cattle with his buddies Charlie and Mike until they moved to town in 2011. Leroy enjoyed watching ballgames and racing but most of all he loved his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Sue; one daughter, Brenda Sue Frank and husband Jim, Jefferson City; two grandsons, Clinton Frank and wife Heather, Eldon, and Tyler Frank, Jefferson City; one granddaughter, Valerie Frank, Jefferson City; one great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Renee Frank; and one great- grandson, Lucas James Frank; two brothers, Glen Hays, Kittinger, Germany, and Russell Hays, California; four sisters, Norma Dutcher and Frances Howard, California, Lavern Lockard, Jefferson City, and Carol Sue Venneman, Sedalia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Ruby Mather on May 15, 2002. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bowlin Cantriel Funeral Services. Burial will be at the California City Cemetery, with Mr. Jack Bowlin officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 27, 2012 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
