The coronavirus pandemic may have cut short Sara Rhine's collegiate career, but she still has plans to play basketball in her future.

Rhine announced last week on Twitter she will continue her basketball career overseas in Spain.

"A fun life update! Today I signed a contract to play professional basketball in Spain," Rhine tweeted. "Here's to the next adventure!"

Rhine's news, which was announced May 6, was followed by a tweet from Drake women's basketball, stating Rhine had signed a professional basketball contract with Spain's Club Polideportivo Bembibre.

Rhine, a 2015 Eldon High School graduate who was an all-state selection by the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association her senior year, has played the past five seasons at Drake. She redshirted eight games into the 2016-17 season after suffering an injury.

In 137 games at Drake, Rhine scored 2,186 career points, which ranks fifth in program history. Her 61.3 field-goal percentage also ranks second in the career books at Drake, while her 999 career rebounds rank sixth all-time with the Bulldogs.

Rhine added 34 career double-doubles to her resume at Drake.

The Bulldogs (22-8) were expected to receive their sixth straight postseason berth - either in the NCAA Tournament or the WNIT - when COVID-19 caused the cancellation of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament in March, followed by the cancellation of the NCAA Tournament.

Club Polideportivo Bembibre, located in northwestern Spain, is a member of the Women's League, which announced last Friday it would cancel the rest of the 2019-20 season. The team finished the season with a 4-18 record.
