Prep Softball: Russellville takes second in tournament

RUSSELLVILLE - The Russellville Lady Indians took second place in the Owensville Tournament on Saturday, opening with a 17-0 win against New Haven before dropping an 8-4 decision to Versailles in the championship game.

The tournament was moved from Owensville to Russellville due to COVID-19 concerns at Owensville.

Russellville won by run-rule in three innings against New Haven. Cambell Backues was the winning pitcher, striking out two while scattering three hits.

Of the Lady Indians' 14 hits, eight were doubles. Ryleigh Case was 2-for-3 with six RBI, while Josie Stewart was 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.

Cali Coombs, Lydia Gilmore and Kraylin Laird each finished with two hits. Gilmore and Laird also drove in two runs each.

In the title game, Versailles scored four runs in the third inning and four more in the fifth to take an 8-3 lead.

Coombs finished the game with a single and a double, while Stewart drove in a pair of runs.

Backues pitched all seven innings and gave up eight runs (four earned) on 10 hits with two strikeouts.

Russellville (12-3) plays today at Pilot Grove.
