Helias volleyball runner-up at Camdenton

CAMDENTON - The Helias Lady Crusaders took second place Saturday in the Camdenton Lake Volleyfest, playing three of their four matches against teams ranked nationally in the top 100.

With only three teams in their pool, the Lady Crusaders played a pair of three-set matches. Helias opened with a 25-18, 25-16, 25-13 win against Staley, then lost 14-25, 16-25, 17-25 to Fayetteville, Ark., ranked No. 1 in Arkansas by MaxPreps and No. 30 in the nation.

Helias advanced to bracket play, where it would face Willard, who won the other pool in the tournament. Willard, ranked No. 3 in Missouri by MaxPreps and No. 94 nationally, had a 13-0 record heading into that semifinal matchup, but the Lady Crusaders handed them their first loss by a score of 25-16, 20-25, 28-26.

Helias moved on to the championship match with a rematch against Fayetteville. The Lady Crusaders dropped that contest 19-25, 19-25.

Chapel Dobbs had a team-high 47 kills to go with five blocks in the tournament, while Jacie Buschjost recorded 25 kills, 36 digs and 15 service points. Landrey VanOverschelde ended the tournament with 61 assists, 19 digs and 25 service points, while Grace Verslues had 38 assists, 18 digs and 16 service points.

Annica Luebbering had a team-high 57 digs with 17 service points and Beth Luebbert tallied 32 digs and 11 service points.

Helias (11-4-1), which is ranked No. 13 in Missouri by MaxPreps, will return to action Tuesday at Sedalia Smith-Cotton.
