Prep Softball: Russellville 5, Versailles 4

VERSAILLES - The Russellville Lady Indians rallied from a two-run deficit Monday to defeat the Versailles Lady Tigers 5-4.

Trailing 4-2 after five innings, Russellville tied the score with a two-out triple by Trinity Riggs, which plated Josie Stewart and Kraylin Laird.

In the seventh, Cali Coombs drew a one-out walk, stole second base and scored on a single by Ryleigh Case to give the Lady Indians a 5-4 lead, their first of the game.

Russellville pitcher Cambell Backues worked around a leadoff single in the bottom of the seventh to seal the win.

Laird finished the game 3-for-3 with three singles, while Stewart also had a multihit game, adding a triple. Claire Duenckel also doubled for the Lady Indians.

In seven innings, Backues allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits with two strikeouts.

For Versailles, Maris Ollison hit a solo home run, while Frankie Shewmaker and Madison Lucas-Avey each had a pair of singles.

Joscelynn Marriott was the losing pitcher for the Lady Tigers, as she gave up five runs (three earned) on nine hits with one walk and one strikeout.

In the JV game, Versailles defeated Russellville 7-5.

Russellville (9-1), ranked No. 2 in Class 2 in the MHSFCA poll, will host St. Elizabeth today in Show-Me Conference action.

Versailles (6-3), which is receiving votes in the Class 3 state rankings, hosts California today.
