Helias, Lowrey and Swinfard in contention in girls state golf

The Helias Lady Crusaders are in the hunt for a team trophy, while Jaycie Lowery of Capital City and Camryn Swinfard of Jefferson City are bidding for individual all-state honors after the first day of the MSHSAA state girls golf tournaments.

Helias ended Monday's opening round with a 408 in the Class 2 Tournament at Columbia Country Club, just one stroke behind fourth-place Smithville. Visitation Academy leads the eight-team event with a 333, with Ursuline Academy (375) and Kirksville (398) rounding out the top three teams.

The top four team finishers receive trophies.

Sophie Hinds of Helias shot an 89 on Monday to hold down the 18th spot in the individual standings. Helias teammates Sophie VanDyne and Molly Case are tied for 36th after carding 98s, while Raygan Hamilton shot a 123 and is tied for 75th.

Eldon is sixth as a team in Class 2 after totaling a 422 on Monday.

Avery Wells shot a 95 and is in 25th place for Eldon. Hannah Petet totaled a 100 for the Lady Mustangs and is tied for 41st, while Danielle Clifton shot a 112 and is in 61st place. Autumn Allen is tied for 65th after shooting a 115.

Hannah Maschhoff from School of the Osage is in second place after shooting a 74. She is two shots behind leader Marline Edgeman of Marshfield. Sophia Rivera-Sindlinger from School of the Osage is in a four-way tie for 10th after totaling an 86.

Hannah Rackers of Blair Oaks shot a 107 on Monday and is tied for 55th.

In the Class 3 tournament at Meadow Lake Acres Country Club, Lowery shot an 83 to hold down 11th place and Swinfard is 14th after shooting an 85.

The top 15 individuals after two rounds will earn all-state honors.

Reagan Zibilski of Springfield Catholic leads the Class 2 individual tournament after shooting a 66. Audrey Rischer of Father Tolton is second with a 71.

Springfield Catholic leads the Class 3 team standings with a 307. Father Tolton is second with a 352, two shots better than Webster Groves and three shots better than Rolla.

In the Class 1 tournament at Silo Ridge in Bolivar, Lillian Eichelberger of California and Sylvia Moss of New Bloomfield are in contention for individual all-state honors.

Eichelberger is in a three-way tie for 13th place after shooting a 98 in Monday's opening round. Moss is tied for 17th after shooting a 100.

Alayna Butts of California is tied for 51st with a 112, while Dixie Moss of New Bloomfield is tied for 61st after shooting a 115.

Villa Duchesne totaled a 377 on Monday to lead the team standings. Three Villa Duchesne golfers shot 94s to tie for sixth in the individual standings, while the fourth shot a 95 and is in a tie for ninth.

In Class 4, Liberty North shot a 308 to lead St. Joseph's Academy by one stroke after Monday's first round at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield.

Jackson is third at 324, while Rock Bridge is fourth in the 10-team field with a 333.

Action is scheduled to resume at 8:30 a.m. today to conclude all four tournaments.
