Prep Softball: Jefferson City 4, West Plains 1

ROLLA - Emma Friedman hit a bases-clearing double with two outs in the top of the seventh to give the No. 6 seed Jefferson City Lady Jays a 4-1 win against No. 3 seed West Plains in the Class 4 District 5 quarterfinals at Rolla Middle School.

Avrey Reynolds pitched six straight scoreless innings after giving up a solo homer to Emily Howell in the bottom of the first.

Kaylee Redcay tied the game for Jefferson City in the top of the fourth with an RBI fielder's choice to score Amaya Ford.

Reynolds finished her seven inning, one-run and seven strikeout performance by getting two key punchouts to stop Zizzers threats. In the bottom of the third she struck out Hannah Judd with a runner on third and two outs before striking out Brooklyn Mead with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the sixth. Lydia Hudson also caught two runners trying to steal, including Howell early in the sixth.

After getting out of that jam in the sixth, Allison Carwile opened the top of the seventh with a walk before Rheagan Nevins got a base hit and Ford reached on an error. Then with two outs, Friedman hit a line drive over the shortstop into the gap in left center to score the three runs that put the Lady Jays into the district semifinals.

Jefferson City plays No. 2 seed Rolla in the semifinals at noon today. The Lady Bulldogs beat No. 7 seed Bolivar 6-2.
