Eugene loses to Scotland County in quarterfinals

MEMPHIS, Mo. - The Eugene Lady Eagles came up just short of reaching their first Final Four on Saturday, losing 36-33 on the road to the Scotland County Lady Tigers in the Class 2 quarterfinals.

Eugene, making its first state quarterfinal appearance, ends the season with a 15-7 record.

Scotland County led 10-9 after one quarter, but Eugene went into halftime with a 23-19 advantage.

The Lady Eagles continued to lead 28-26 going into the fourth quarter. The score was tied at 33 with less than a minute to play, then the Lady Tigers pulled away to advance to their first Final Four since 2017.

Alaynna Whitaker had a game-high 15 points and Hannah Feeney chipped in 11 points for Scotland County (22-5), which advances to play top-ranked Wellington-Napoleon (23-2) in the semifinals at 7 p.m. Thursday at JQH Arena in Springfield.

Olivia Angerer finished with a game-high 13 points for Eugene.
